Located in the historic heart of Coconut Grove, the Street of Mayfair project reflects A&A Elevator’s guiding philosophy:
preserve whenever possible, transform only when necessary.
While many would have opted for demolition and complete replacement, our team chose a more challenging yet meaningful path—revitalizing a unique architectural asset while faithfully honoring its character.
The core challenge involved transforming an outdated pentagonal elevator into a square, semi-panoramic, light-filled cabin, striking a balance between innovation and heritage.
Engineering Excellence Under Extreme Conditions
This modernization was remarkable not only for what was achieved, but for how it was accomplished. Over eight months, the team operated under exceptionally demanding conditions:
- Overnight work shifts to avoid daytime disruption
- Strict noise-free requirements during business hours
- 24/7 groundwater pumping systems to manage continual infiltration
- A full hydraulic piston relocation, executed through a drilled shaft beneath the water table
The final challenge—working below the water table—proved particularly daunting, representing a level of complexity that most companies would refuse to attempt. A&A Elevator’s solution required innovative installation methods, exacting precision, and unwavering determination from every engineer and technician involved.

One of the project’s most meaningful elements was the preservation of its original doors, handcrafted decades ago by a local artisan. In a remarkable full-circle moment, the very same craftsman returned to restore them—creating a beautiful continuity between past and present.
The car frame and interior were completely redesigned, featuring:
